claiming space.

I am in the process of reclaiming myself. My mind, my attention, my body, my time, and my identity. I am trying on different things to see if they fit. I haven't coded a website like this (and to be fair, I didn't code this one, only modified it) in years. I love that something like neocities and blinkies and so many other throwbacks to the early internet still exist. Things were so much more fun before the corporations came along.

The web was a place of sharing and finding others who shared your interests. Forums, personal websites, webrings, blog trains, and people creating for each other or themselves instead of capitalism. I am so happy there is still a niche of this that exists.

I have had a blog of some sort for years. Since the late 90s. It used to be fun, but then it became all about aesthetics and SEO and analytics. It became about having to have something to sell or someplace to put ads. Most of the web is unuseable because of ads now. There is a unspoken pressure to having a blog that everything be polished and done before it's shared. Time is spent on aesthetics instead of content and creativity. I want this space to be different. This is unpolished and fun and just for me (although I hope others like somethething they find here too).

I have left almost all social media owned by billionaires. It was hard to get rid of Instagram, but I finally cut the cord. No X, no Meta, no Substack. I'm on Bluesky and I'm trying out Pixelfed, although I think I work better in words than images. This place feels refreshing. I love the chaos and lack of cohesion. We'll see what springs from that.
